I am using a Haicom HI-204III GPS receiver with SOB and I don't remember having any problems with loading the software. The com port on the PC needs to be set to 4800 baud, 8 bits, 1 stop bit and no parity. You do need to have the receiver 'outside' to get any signals, though. I do remember having to boot up the PC first without the Haicom or else the PC thinks it is a mouse and does strange things; then plug in the Haicom and set up the com port as above. Ihe Haicom 204 III GPS and dont think I have any issues with it. I think I downloaded the software from Haicoms site and have a zip file in my download directory: haicom hi 204 III USB.zip which has resulted in a directory in my Program Files directory called: Haicom 204 III this has an 'other' directory, and a USB_Driver directory The XP directory has the driver files: ser2pl.sys and ser2pl.inf, there is also a file called serwpl.inf Laptops here in manchester, GPS is on the boat 1200 miles away. Cheers Richard. BTW I have neverhad to change the baud speed of a COM port, but you do need to make sure that both SOB and the GPS are using the same COM Port.

There is a file called SOB_COM.exe in the SOB directory which tells you which Com Ports SOB can use. Then you select the one you want it to use. Only use SOB_COM.exe with SOB closed down.

And you can check which COM port the GPS is using by looking in Device Manager. You can also change the com port used by the GPS some where in its' properties in Device manager, (Advanced??). There are times that PL driver is old and it can be advantage to download updated driver. You right click, the.exe, and go to properties, and set it there.
