There it states that 1640is with serial starting with 003 don't 'need' a driver. The problem here obviously is that the 003 1640is are not fully compatible with Mac OS 10.8 and 10.9. I should also mention that another problem with the 003 serialized ones is a high CPU load. My CPU is constantly around 20-30% when launching my DAW. This has been the case only since I used the 1640i. Core Audio is the only option I have with the Mixer version I got.

I'd beat on this thing mercilessly until it worked because you're going to be out cash either way. I installed the driver, curious as I am but as expected it won't recognize the mixer. Yesterday I sent an email to the seller to have the mixer exchanged. Today morning at 9 it rings at the door and the delivery man hold a large box of 1640i incl. Return documents for the old one! (If there's one thing you can't complain about in Japan, it's the service!) But. I open the box and check the serial. It's a 003, DOH!

Now I have here two large bricks, haha! Contacted seller again and after some back and forward with him and a Mackie Japan representative they are now ordering a 204 from the US. According to the Mackie guy they didn't even have the newer version here in Japan.
